What are Permanent Cosmetics? Another name for it is Micropigmentation, although I feel that this is a slightly misleading title. Permanent Cosmetics are exactly that . . . . Permanent. Don't let anyone tell you they are anything else. The procedure basically tattooing, but not nearly as invasive or uncomfortable as the traditional form. The client and artist will have a consultation to find out what the desired results are. On the day of the application the client will first fill out consent forms and discuss the work to be done. Next the area will cleaned and the outlines will be drawn on to the client's specifications. Once the client has OK'd the outlines and colors have been chosen a topical anesthetic will be applied. The artist will then insert the color beneath the skin. The length of time for the applications will depend on the client's needs. You can expect some swelling following the application, but you should be able to return to work if you desire. The client will be given a list of instructions on how to care for their Permanent Cosmetics before leaving and a follow up appointment will be made. Of course there is more to it than that, but I believe that I have answered the major questions. Oops, I bet I missed one. Does it hurt? There is a topical anesthetic used to help decrease any discomfort. My clients generally feel that I am very gentle and that they have found the application to be stress free. Things to keep in mind when choosing an artist: Beware of salons that do Permanent Cosmetics and also have nail techs and hair dressers. The dust and chemicals floating in the air make for unclean circumstances. Meet your artist and ask them questions. Feel comfortable that they will apply the Permanent Cosmetics the way you want them. Make sure they have had some formal training. Believe it or not: Arizona is unregulated and anyone can do this. There are video tapes out there claiming to be able to train you to do Permanent Cosmetics in a couple of days. Needless to say . . . you want a professional with experience and knowledge. Ask if they have certification for Blood Borne Pathogens as requested by OSHA. Beware of extremely low prices or freebies!!! You get what you pay for. Not saying that just because the price is huge the work will be excellent. Use common sense and get to know your potential Permanent Cosmetic Artist. Beware of outrageous promises! Permanent Cosmetics are there to enhance and accent. It is not plastic surgery or a magic genie. Don't expect to have Kim Bassinger lips if you have thin lips. Expect to have your lips enhanced and improved. Make sure your artist uses pigments especially for Permanent Cosmetics. Never use tattoo inks! Take care if you have allergies to Nickel as it is found in some Iron Oxide pigments. Expect to see the area the procedures are done in. Look for cleanliness and neatness. Do they have Sharps containers for proper disposal. Ask about disposable and sterilized items. Ask for client recommendations or photos of work. Never take medical advice from a Permanent Cosmetic Professional. We are not doctors! Do not take medications from them. See your doctor. Make sure your artist knows any health issues or allergies you have. This is important for you to have a good experience. Some health issues could make this dangerous or could make it so that the color won't stay. Above all make don't go to someone's home! This is dangerous and illegal. |
